The list of Risk Factor for Dementia

Evidence is increasing and is now stronger than before that tackling the many risk factors for dementia will reduce your risk for dementia.


  1. Less education, or lack of continued learning

  2. Untreated hearing loss, 

  3. Hypertension 

  4. Smoking tobacco or cannabis 

  5. Obesity 

  6. Depression 

  7. Physical inactivity (sitting for more than 9 hour per day)

  8. Diabetes

  9. Alcohol consumption 

  10. Traumatic brain injury [TBI], 

  11. Air pollution

  12. Social isolation 

  13. Untreated vision loss

  14. High LDL cholesterol (especially if inflammation is also present)

  15. Excess Omega 6 refined vegetable/seed oils - Inflammatory. Avoid fried foods and especially avoid deep fried foods at Fast food restaurants. 

  16. Excess Beef or pork consumption are inflammatory

  17. Deficiency of Omega 3 oils, they are beneficial and anti-inflammatory. 

  18. Lack of consumption of Green vegetable - anti-inflammatory

  19. Lack of consumption berries - anti-inflammatory 

  20. Lack of consumption Nuts - anti-inflammatory

  21. Vit D deficiency

  22. Vitamin B12 deficiency

  23. Highly refined packaged foods and sweets

  24. Poor quality sleep

  25. Some prescription and non-prescriptions medications

  26. Toxins such as Lead, Mercury, Plastics, Molds, pesticide, Cleaning products etc.

  27. Chronic infection (herpes, Lyme, gingivitis etc .

  28. Chronic Anxiety and stress
